The work environment and culture is not conducive
The work environment and culture is not conducive; the project managers complain that Marketing seems to be working in isolation from other departments. It appears as though; the marketing department is heading the project in decision making without proper consultation with the other departments involved in the project. This is a clear indication that there is a lack of communication (formal or informal), as well as trust amongst project team members.
Lack of commitment from the engineering group who seem to have a poor response to requests all the time and that they don’t fulfil commitments, leaving the project managers frustrated due to lack of support. The engineering team could possibly have created a culture that seems to undermine other departments involved in the project, since they’re regarded as the backbone of the company, and most of the executive team has been developed from their department.
Inadequate change control, Management comes to the save and take the best resources from a good ongoing project to rescue failing ones instead of allowing some bad projects to fail. This shortcoming has had a bad impact on this department, because the resources which have been planned for that particular project, are reassigned without proper consultation with the relevant project manager.
Project requirements and expectations of clients are not properly outlined to the project team members, as well as not planning them with delivery competency and scope of work. Again, the project team members are not properly given the much needed information concerning project requirement, specifications, line of communication, and the processes to be followed.
